I learned this practice drill from Adam Painchaud’s SIG Sauer Academy YouTube channel. It’s improved my skill immensely. The drill combines live fire with dry fire making for some excellent training time.
Start with your pistol locked and loaded with a round in the chamber.
Remove the magazine.
Now fire two shots.
The first will go “Bang!” while the second will go “Click.”
How was that front sight doing when you pulled the trigger for the second shot? You should be able to easily identify what your trigger pull is doing to the pistol.
Insert the magazine and rack the slide.
Remove the magazine.
Now fire two shots.
Repeat.
Repeat until out of ammo, when tired or too disgusted with your poor trigger finger discipline to continue. 🙂 If you do this with a couple of full 10 round magazines, you will have taken 40 shots while only shooting 20 rounds.
Saved money. Got better. I like it!
