Like my father, of blessed memory, I have a pump shotgun behind the bedroom door. Just in case. Bump in the night sort of thing. I love that sound. Don’t you?
The poor thing’s been sitting there for years (truth be told, probably 15 years or more) without being touched. I recognize that’s a good thing from a home invasion perspective, but still. Anyway, I decided to do a tactical makeover of the ol’ Mossberg 500.
I’m a fan of bullpups – firearms with the action behind the trigger – because they are shorter and easier to maneuver. The Israeli Tavor TAR-21 is the standard issue combat rifle for the IDF. I have converted mine to 9mm. It’s a blast to shoot (once you ease that trigger). I found that Bullpup Unlimited had a bullpup conversion kit for my shotgun. So I purchased the kit from the Bullpup Armory (right here in Charlotte) and got to work.
The overall length of my Mossberg was about 40 inches. I removed the stock and forearm to mount the remaining stripped-down action into the polymer shroud. It was a quick task, with little to go wrong. The result?
A reliable, tactical pump shotgun with a familiar AR15-style grip and controls, pica tinny accessory rails – and only 28 inches long!
Stay safe. Protect your family and home. Train often.
